Unprotected Alloy 347H Tubes rusts readily when exposed to air and moisture. Since iron oxide has lower density than Grade 347H Pipes, the film expands and tends to flake and fall away. In comparison, Grade 347H Tubes from Numax Steels contain sufficient chromium to undergo passivation, forming an inert film of chromium oxide on the surface. The layer prevents further corrosion by blocking oxygen diffusion to the surface of AISI 347H Pipes and stops corrosion from spreading into the bulk of the metal. The resistance to staining and corrosion, low maintenance, and acquainted lustre make it an ideal AISI 347H Tubes for many applications. The yield strength of Type 347H Pipes and Tubes is about twice that of conventional austenitic stainless steels.
