The high sulphur content of this alloy also has a detrimental impact on hot workability. If hot forming is required, once again, Stainless Steel 321H Plates should be considered as an alternate selection.

The cold work hardening rate of this alloy makes it less machinable than 410 stainless steel, but similar to 304. It is common for SS 321H Sheets to be dual certified as 317 and 317L when the material meets the lower carbon limit of SS 317L. The producer of the steel must certify the material as Type 321 if it is to be used as Type 317 instead of Type 317L.

SS 321H Plates may be formed and fabricated through a full range of cold working operations. It can be used in heading, drawing, bending, and upsetting, where any cold working operations will increase the strength and hardness of the material. 321H Stainless Steel Sheets is a tough austenitic stainless steel subject to work hardening during deformation and is resistant to chip breaking.
